Suction and Discharge Valve Seat
Description
Suction and discharge valve seats are used in reciprocating engines to seal the combustion chamber. The suction valve opens to admit fuel and air mixture into the combustion chamber, while the discharge valve opens to allow exhaust gases to escape.
The seat is designed with a series of grooves or channels machined into it. These grooves allow fuel and air to pass through the seat into the combustion chamber as long as they are aligned properly with the intake and exhaust ports.
When they become misaligned, they act like a one-way valve that prevents any flow through them. This can occur when there is wear on the surface of the seat or if there is dirt or debris lodged inside these grooves.
