What are Fittings and Connectors?

Fittings and connectors are the plumbing components that are used to connect pipes. They can be made of different types of materials, including plastic, brass, steel, copper and PVC.

Fittings are used to connect pipes of different diameters. For example, you might use a 45-degree elbow to connect a 3/4″ pipe with a 1″ pipe.

Connectors are used to join two pipes together at their ends. For example, you might use an ell connector to join two 3/4″ pipes together at their ends.

In addition to joining two pipes, connectors can also be used to connect a pipe with a fixture or other plumbing component. For example, an ell connector can be used to join two pipes together at their ends and then connect them to a showerhead assembly.

Types of Fittings and Connectors

Fittings and Connectors are used to join two or more tubes together. They can also be used to connect a tube to another material, such as a sprinkler head or nozzle.

There are many types of fittings available, including male threaded, female threaded and non-threaded fittings.

Threaded Fittings

Threaded fittings, often called pipe unions, are designed to connect two pipes together with a threaded connection. These fittings can be used on both copper and plastic pipes.

They come in many different sizes and materials including brass, stainless steel and PVC.

Pipe Elbows

Pipe elbows are designed to change the direction of flow in a line without increasing the amount of pipe needed to complete the job. They come in both 90° and 45° angles for making sharp turns in your plumbing system.

You can also find elbows made from plastic or stainless steel which are typically used for outdoor applications like irrigation systems or air conditioning units.

Pipe Crosses

Pipe crosses, also known as tee joints or crosses, allow you to branch off from one line so that it splits into two separate pipes before connecting back together again at another point further down the line.

This allows you to have multiple outlets from one pipe, which is useful for things like sprinklers, outdoor lighting or other systems that need to be placed in different areas of your yard.

Non-threaded fittings

Non-threaded fittings are a great way to connect pipes together without having to worry about threading them. Non-threaded fittings come in many different styles, from bushings and unions that provide connections between pipes of varying sizes, to reducers and tees that help you branch off from one line into two separate pipes before joining them back together again further down the line.

Purpose of Fittings and Connectors

Fittings and connectors are the most important components in a plumbing system. They are the only parts that connect pipes to each other, and they allow water to flow through the pipes. They can be made of plastic, metal or other materials, depending on their purpose and your budget.

Plastic fittings and connectors are typically used for low-pressure applications such as watering plants or washing dishes.

They are also used to connect hose bibs to water supply lines. Metal fittings and connectors are typically used in high-pressure applications such as firefighting or irrigation systems.

Applications of Fittings and Connectors

There are many different types of fittings and connectors available for your plumbing applications. Each type has its own unique purpose and uses. Some may be used in a residential application while others are meant for commercial use.

Some common uses for fittings include:

Valves – these fittings allow you to control the flow of water through your system. They come in many different styles such as ball valves, gate valves, globe valves, check valves and more. Each style serves a different purpose but all are designed to help you control the flow of water through your home or business.

Connectors – these fittings help you connect two pipes together without any leaks occurring between them due to poor seals or bad connections. They come in many different sizes including small ones that can fit into tight spaces or large ones that can connect multiple pipes together at once easily without having to worry about leaks occurring between them.

Fittings and Connectors Installation Process

The installation process is relatively simple. First, check the size of your pipe. For example, if you have 3/4-inch pipe, buy a 3/4-inch fitting.

Next, unscrew the nut on the end of the pipe that connects to your water line and screw in one end of the fitting. Then, screw the other end of the fitting onto your water line. Finally, tighten everything down with pliers or a wrench.
